Rise: Blood Hunter

I rent or buy vampire movies hoping and hoping that they will be good, satisfying and sweet vampire FUN!

Well, I had never seen Rise: Blood Hunter before tonight. Even if it did start out a bit cliche and kind of cheesy, as I continued watching I started really liking it!  Sure, it’s a bit lame in parts and made me roll my eyes and laugh out loud in other parts but at least it’s enjoyable.

Rise: Blood Hunter

Part of me started watching thinking… really? Lucy Liu? As a vampire?  AND a vampire hunter? But in the weird scheme of the movie, her slightly dominatrix acting style worked. For enjoyment purposes, of course!

There were some classic vampire themes going on – thirst for blood, confusion of the newly turned, contempt for the one that made the newborn, no reflection in mirrors – but they can venture out into the sunlight, have no fangs (the use a small fingernail-like dagger) and drink alcohol and water (sounds like the perfect vampire to me!).  Definitely an evolution from the classic stories, but nothing new I must admit.

Yeah, it’s not the greatest movie in the world, but as far as vampire movies go… I liked it.

VVV (oh, yeah… 3 fangs)
