Fri ,19/03/2010

I finally did it.  I bought the ENTIRE vampire book series, starting with Dead Until Dark, by Charlaine Harris.

Now, I absolutely adored the first season of True Blood (to be reviewed shortly!) and was hoping that the books would be as enticing…  YES!  So far so good!

Rumors

Wed ,03/03/2010

I like a good rumor, especially when it involves vampires!

Rumor has it that the author of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Seth Graham-Smith, has sold the film rights to his book. And the juiciest part of the rumor is that Tim Burton will be involved.

Exciting! I have to go get the book!

Fang Rating System

Anna’s Fang Rating System.   V to VVVVV

Now, because I like to review all the vampire books and movies that I come across, I decided to create my own rating system.  And of COURSE I needed it to be vampire themed!

So thus, my fang rating system.  I will rate the books I read and movies I watch on a system of 1 fang (V) to 5 fangs (VVVVV).  5 fangs being great on the Anna scale and 1 fang meaning that it sucked (no pun intended! HA!).

Enjoy!

Vampire book: From Demons to Dracula

Tue ,23/02/2010

I just finished the non-fiction vampire book by Matthew Beresford called From Demons to Dracula: The Creation of the Modern Vampire Myth.

This book called to me because it is the subject that I am totally obsessed with – the evolution of the vampire myth. It is fascinating how the vampire evolved from a eerie whisper in the night, to a fearful and loathsome blood-sucking monster, to the drop-dead gorgeous, elegant, pensive and sexy creature of today.

And I have to tell you, I ate this book up! I loved it.

The author obviously did his homework – from reading folklore from many different parts of the world, to interviews with the top authorities and authors on vampires, to traveling the world to different vampire hotspots.

I love that at the very beginning of the book, Beresford makes this statement about spirits, ghosts, spectres and monstrous beings, “Whether these are real or imagined is irrelevant; it is the belief in them that enables their power over us.”  I really loved that sentiment and it set the stage for the whole book for me.

Beresford makes his way from old folklore, contemplations and investigations on death and burial rituals throughout the ages, the story of Vlad Tepes, the literature of the late 1800′s to today (Stoker, Rice, etc.), Hollywood, to actual vampire haunts and sitings.

The book is really a fascinating read and a definite MUST for anyone interested in the evolution of the vampire and the ongoing human interests and obsessions with fear, death, life and immortality.

VVVVV  (yes, that’s right 5 fangs!)

Another Day, Another Book

Sun ,21/02/2010

Yes… another day, another book.

I just started reading a great book by Matthew Beresford called From Demons to Dracula: The Creation of the Modern Vampire Myth.  I cannot put it down.

The author wrote this book about the very aspect of vampires that I am completely obsessed with – the evolution of the vampire throughout history.

Beresford has definitely done his homework and tells a fascinating story. I can’t wait to finish it so that I can write a proper review! Until then, back to reading…

Vampire Books: Fangland

Wed ,20/01/2010

I am almost done with reading a book called Fangland by John Marks. It’s not my favorite vampire book of all time, but it’s an interesting read.

Are those real?

Fangs!
